The charger has two functions: gathering and storing enough energy to charge a device (originally intended for the Nintendo DS) and as a night light.

IDEATION PHASE

The solar charger needed to be friendly so that kids would find it appealing. The star form allowed the device to be easy to use while fitting in amongst other Nintendo products.

keeping it simple

Intended for children to be able to use with ease, the Charge Star is designed with simplicity in mind and has only a few components which comprise the majority of the hardware.

Good form

Doing a form study was an important part of the process to figure out how someone would interact with the charger. It started with the simple concept of an open/close feature and went from there.

monocrystalline solar panels

Stick it to the window using the suction cup on the back and let the sun do its' work. Monocrystalline solar panels are among the most efficient solar panels and are ideal for this product.
